Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays! We never spend a ton of gifts, or make a huge deal out of the day or anything. But this holiday reminds me of the people in my life that I love so much and gives me a reason to celebrate them!

Depending on the person, I try and celebrate them in the way they feel the most loved. I highly recommend figuring out what you and your partners love language is. This is not only great on Valentine’s Day, but really every day in the year. If you have children, it is also great to find out what your children’s love language is. We all feel love in different ways and we should want to show love to our people in ways they feel loved best! A resource to help you find out your and your partners love language is the book The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts by Gary Chapman. Another resource to support you finding your children’s love language is the book The 5 Love Languages of Children: The Secret to Loving Children Effectively by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell. Both books are extremely helpful when learning about different love languages.

My love language tends to be gift receiving and quality time. Many couples feel loved through acts of service. I always felt kind of awkward receiving gifts from others, but as the years have passed, I realized I feel so seen and feel worthy when my husband gifts me something. It shows he is listening and being thoughtful, even when life is busy or the budget is tight. This can be daunting for loved ones to think of a gift that makes you feel loved. Whether you do a task on the house that has been plaguing you, give a gift to a loved one, take the day to have a staycation with your loved one, write a sincere card expressing your love and appreciation for the other person, or make an effort to hold your partners hand or rub their shoulders, your loved one will feel special and seen knowing you tried to better understand them and put in extra effort to make them feel loved!
